For more than 5 years, Randall “Randy” Blum, Consultant, has delivered strategic hiring and retention consulting for mid-sized companies. In addition to his work, Randall Blum supports several charitable organizations, including the Animal Rescue League (ARL).

ARL chapters rescue stray and abandoned animals and provide them with shelter, veterinary care, and training. ARL chapters also offer resources to pet owners who are having issues caring for their animals.

Every year, thousands of pet owners make the difficult decision to give their pets to a shelter. The most common reasons for surrendering an animal include severe behavioral problems, major life changes, or financial problems. Many ARL chapters have implemented helplines to inform pet owners of other options besides surrender.

For example, the ARL helpline may connect pet owners with free or low-cost animal trainers and veterinarians. If the owner is ill, the helpline can find a foster family to care for the pet until the owner recovers. Other ARL chapters publish lists of pet-friendly rental companies so owners who need to find new housing can keep their animals.
